Do you have a manual? Check a wiring diagram to see if something like a tip over switch would kill the fuel pump. It could be set up to stop the pump in case of an accident.

I've heard of Buells developing dead shorts in the fuel pump circuit after having wires rub the frame. Make sure the Fuel Pump Fuse is not blown. I wouldnt think that would effect your starter but I'm not familiar with how your bike is set up so it's something to look into.

When you turn on the key, does the headlight usually turn on? (Mine only turns on after the bike starts.) I was just thinking, if the light is very dim or not even on, then it could be a loose ground.
